Young Bookworms with Megan

 
This middle-grade book club is designed for kids between the ages of 9 and 12. Monthly book selections will include a range of genres and formats. The goal of this club is to promote a love of reading and to provide space for young readers to discuss great books!

Disco Biblioteca: Music Books & Listening Party with Madona

 

This club is an opportunity for folks who love music and books to read, chat, and listen to curated playlists inspired by the book selection. Facilitated by Takoma Radio’s own Night Nurse (shows on the last Friday of the month; 7 -8 pm). Books and music: just like chocolate and peanut butter; so happy together.

NEW! Sugar & Spice with Alexzandra

 
Calling hopeless romantics and book-ish flirts: this club will explore different sub-sections of the vast romance genre each month, one happily-ever-after at a time. We will celebrate love stories as diverse as the readers that enjoy them, from mainstream to the magnificently unconventional. Expect laughter, lively debates, and plenty of blushing over our favorite tropes.

Memento Mori with Ali

Indie Press Book Club with Matt

 
In light of the recent de-funding of many small presses by the current administration, this reading group will meet monthly to discuss a book from an independent press. This group will focus on exploring the work of independent presses as well as  promoting up-and-coming authors and books in translation.

Gumshoes: Mystery Fiction Book Club with John

Let’s solve (fictional) crimes together! From globe-trotting mysteries to the secrets buried in the backyard, detective fiction enables readers to step into the role of the investigator and solve elaborate and entertaining mysteries. In this detective fiction book club, we will practice expanding the canon from Poirot and Sherlock Holmes by reading new contemporary detective fiction that experiments with the form and offers perspectives from across the world.

Here, Queer, and Fantastic! with Sarah

 
Join us to explore novels that challenge, subvert, or reimagine the norms of fantasy writing. Every month, we will be exploring diverse and magical worlds, where LGBTQ+ characters are at the center of the action and/or written by LGBTQ+ authors. Epic adventures, magical beings.

Messy! Sexy? Midlife. with Rachel & Charlie

 
We will read fiction, memoir and other types of non-fiction that explore the state of middle age in the world now: marriage, divorce, sex, parenting, reckoning with mortality, emotional inheritance, desire, disappointment, adjusting expectations. What is a grown-up, anyway?

The Booker Book Club with Vincent

 
In the Booker Book Club, we read some of the very best literary fiction written in the English language. We select, read, and discuss shortlisted, longlisted, and winning Booker Prize novels, delving into rich narratives that challenge, inspire, and resonate with the depth and diversity of human experience.

Fantasy & SciFi Book Club with Jo Ann

 
If you love to escape to different worlds, see magic, and  fantastic creatures in your books, come read with us! We will talk about different worlds and the characters that evolve there, and maybe what they teach us about our own world. We will read a range of modern fantasy and speculative fiction with an emphasis on diverse writers and stories that leave us with hope!

Poetry Book Club with Sidney

 

We will be reading poetry collections from diverse voices and publishers! The fun/naughty thing about this book club is you DON’T have to read the whole book before our meeting (just make sure you read enough of the collection to have an idea of what poems you would like to look at closer)! You don’t need to have ANY poetry reading experience, as your host will walk you through how to talk poetry.

History Book Club with Steve

The History book club is dedicated to learning about and discussing the history of the world at large. Each month we will talk about a book that informs us about a country’s politics, society, and culture over the last 250 years or more.
